Brief Abstract

DESCRIPTION

This measure is used to assess the percentage of teeth retreated between 1 and 6 months of completing a course of endodontic treatment, during the time period under study.

RATIONALE

Endodontic treatment may fail for a number of reasons:

  • Poor initial prognosis
  • Accompanying periodontal disease
  • Split/fractured root associated with post crown
  • Poor technique resulting in perforation/over instrumentation

Treatment outcomes have a direct bearing on cost, utilisation of resources, future treatment options and patient satisfaction.

Oral health; completed endodontic treatment; retreatment
